What We Do
The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization whose mission is to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian cancer. The Sacramento Chapter has been instrumental in these efforts through its Focus Forward Volunteer-to-Patient Support Program, Speakers Bureau, patient, public and professional education, advocacy and awareness efforts throughout the Sacramento region.
The Sacramento Chapter of NOCC is pleased to have hosted its first annual Run/Walk on September 20, to promote awareness of ovarian cancer, and raise funds to continue our outreach and educational programs, and research donations.
Ovarian cancer is an especially daunting enemy - Known for its vague and difficult to diagnose symptoms, ovarian cancer strikes more than 25,000 women annually. Unlike breast and cervical cancer, there is no reliable early detection test for ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, 16,000 women will die of ovarian cancer this year because most cases are not diagnosed until the cancer is in the advanced stages. But, when ovarian cancer is diagnosed early . . . there is a 90% survival rate.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the first Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer! We hope to see you next year!
Congratulations and thanks go to our top three fundraisers!!!
Katy McKenzie - raised $880
Tami Kelly - raised $440
Laurie Marshall -raised $425
They will receive gift certificates to Outback Steakhouse!
Overall donations have topped $18,000!!!
